Imagine College Scholarship FAQ

How much is the Imagine College Scholarship?

Imagine College Scholars are eligible for a total of $4,000 in scholarship funds, to be disbursed in $500 increments per semester for up to four years (or 8 semesters).
How much money can I get per semester? What about per year?

The scholarship is disbursed in $500 increments per semester, meaning you may receive up to $1,000 a year if you renew your scholarship during both the fall and spring semesters.
How many years do I have to get my total $4,000 scholarship?

You have four years’ worth of scholarship funds available to you, broken down into $500 increments per semester. This means you may receive your scholarship 8 times (2 semesters per academic year) during your four years at college.
What are the requirements to receive the scholarship upon graduation?

In high school, you must have a 2.5 GPA or higher upon graduation, sign an Imagine College contract, have attended Seaside High School all four years of high school, and have participated in the Summer Scholar Institute or a similar summer enrichment opportunity.

NOTE:Scholarships are only available through the graduating class of 2017 at Seaside High School. If you will be graduating after 2017, please see our letter on the main Imagine College page about our discontinued funding and why we cannot offer the scholarship beyond the graduating class of 2017.
How do I claim my scholarship before I graduate?

If you are a senior in high school, you need to do the following things BEFORE graduation in order to claim your scholarship:
1) Meet with Imagine College Staff to verify that you are eligible to receive the scholarship
2) Attend a Scholarship Orientation Night with your parent
3) Sign the following forms:
-Imagine College contract (if not already on file for you)
     -Academic Records Release form
     -Acknowledgement of Scholarship Policies receipt
4) Submit proof of acceptance to the school you intend to go to this coming fall
-Acceptable proof includes a Xeroxed copy, screenshot, or PDF attachment of either a printed or emailed letter of acceptance from your institution
5) Submit the online Scholarship Renewal Form (follow the link under “Scholarship Forms” on the Imagine College page of the Seaside High School website)
What are the requirements to keep the scholarship once I am in college?

In order to receive the scholarship, Imagine College scholars must remain enrolled full-time (12 units or more) each semester during college and maintain at least a 2.0 semester GPA.
It's my first semester in college what do I do to get my scholarship?

In order to receive your scholarship your first semester, you must do the following on or before the deadline:
1) Submit the online Scholarship Renewal Form (follow the link under “Scholarship Forms” on the Imagine College page of the Seaside High School website)
2) Submit proof of your current semester schedule showing the # of units in which you are enrolled
How do I renew my scholarship every semester?

In order to receive your scholarship EACH and EVERY semester, you must do the following three things on a semester basis:
1) Submit the online Scholarship Renewal Form (follow the link under “Scholarship Forms” on the Imagine College page of the Seaside High School website)
2) Submit proof of your current semester schedule showing the # of units in which you are enrolled
3) Submit proof of your previous semester units completed and term GPA
When are the deadlines?

Fall Renewal Deadline: September 30th
Fall Appeal/Deferral Deadline: October 15th

Spring Renewal Deadline: January 31st
Spring Appeal/Deferral Deadline: February 15th
Is there a grace period if I miss the above deadlines or am late turning in one of the required proofs?

No. If you miss the renewal deadline, you will have to use your one appeal to renew your scholarship. If you miss both the renewal and the appeal/deferral deadline, you will lose eligibility to receive your scholarship for all future semesters. Imagine College reserves the right to make exceptions to this policy for unforeseen/extenuating circumstances; it is your responsibility to contact us if you have missed the deadlines and want to request an exception to this policy.
What do I need to do if my GPA falls below a 2.0? (based on semester GPA, NOT cumulative)

You must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA each semester/term during your college studies in order to stay eligible for the scholarship. Students who fall below a 2.0 GPA for a semester must appeal their scholarship in order to stay eligible to receive the money in future semesters. Falling below a 2.0 GPA means you are NOT eligible to receive money during the following semester (i.e. if you got a 2.0 in the fall, then you will not be eligible for money in the spring), but appealing gives you the opportunity to keep receiving your scholarship money after one semester of appealing rather than losing your scholarship entirely.

In order to appeal your scholarship for a low GPA, you must submit the online Scholarship Renewal Form (follow the link under “Scholarship Forms” on the Imagine College page of the Seaside High School website) and answer the questions about GPA accordingly. Doing so will automatically direct you to the appeal form where you will then be asked to submit a detailed written statement about why your GPA fell below the acceptable minimum requirement.

NOTE:Your CUMULATIVE GPA and your semester GPA are different. Imagine College does not look at your cumulative GPA, but focuses on your previous semester GPA each time you renew. Please make sure to submit your semester GPA on your proofs each renewal season.
What if I am not a full-time (12 units) student this semester?

In order to stay eligible for your scholarship, you must stay enrolled as a full-time student during the normal academic school year (i.e. during the fall and spring terms). If you have made a choice to take less than a full-time (12 unit) schedule for one semester, you will need to appeal your scholarship for the current semester.

In order to appeal your scholarship for falling below full-time status, you must submit the online Scholarship Renewal Form (follow the link under “Scholarship Forms” on the Imagine College page of the Seaside High School website) and answer the questions about your enrollment status accordingly. Doing so will automatically direct you to the appeal form where you will then be asked to submit a detailed written statement about why your number of units enrolled is below the acceptable minimum requirement.
What if I dropped classes and fell below 12 units at the end of my previous semester?

If you dropped classes in the previous semester AFTER renewing your scholarship for that semester and ended up completing the semester with less than 12 units, you will not be eligible for renewal during the following semester. In this case, you would need to appeal your scholarship for that semester.

In order to appeal your scholarship for falling below full-time status, you must submit the online Scholarship Renewal Form (follow the link under “Scholarship Forms” on the Imagine College page of the Seaside High School website) and answer the questions about your enrollment status accordingly. Doing so will automatically direct you to the appeal form where you will then be asked to submit a detailed written statement about why your number of units completed fell below the acceptable minimum requirement.
What if I am filling out the online Scholarship Renewal Form and I have a question or I am confused about something?

Call us at 831-392-3530 ext. 2070 or send an email to imaginecollege@gmail.com. IMPORTANT:Even if you are confused about something, you are still responsible for getting in touch with us, clearing up the confusion, and still submitting your renewal form and required proofs on or before the semester deadline! Emailing us with a question, but failing to submit your form and proofs after doing so, will not qualify as turning in all your required documents on time.
What if I am unsure where to find the required proofs on my student portal or student account?
Call us at 831-392-3530 ext. 2070 or send an email to imaginecollege@gmail.com. IMPORTANT: Even if you are confused about something, you are still responsible for getting in touch with us, clearing up the confusion, and still submitting your renewal form and required proofs on or before the semester deadline! Emailing us with a question, but failing to submit your form and proofs after doing so, will not qualify as turning in all your required documents on time.

Calling your institution’s admissions or registrar’s office is also an option for getting more information about where to find proof of your enrolled units or GPA. An unofficial transcript usually has all your enrollment data from past and current semesters, along with GPA and units completed. When in doubt, send us a copy of your full unofficial transcript and we will contact you if we need something further.
What if I plan to take a year off from school and then go back?
All Imagine College Scholars may take up to one year of deferment, meaning a period of time where they do not attend school. In order to defer your scholarship for up to one year, you must submit the online Scholarship Renewal Form (follow the link under “Scholarship Forms” on the Imagine College page of the Seaside High School website) and answer the question about taking time off from school accordingly. Doing so will automatically direct you to the deferral form where you will be asked to submit a detailed written statement about why you are taking time off from and when you’ll return.
Can I appeal or defer my scholarship more than once?
No. All Imagine College scholars get one appeal and/or one deferral during their college career. Please plan carefully and stay on top of your scholarship requirements (full time enrollment, a 2.0 GPA, and meeting required deadlines) so you do not have to use your appeal or deferral unless absolutely necessary.
What happens if I have appealed my scholarship in the past, but need to appeal again for falling below full-time status or a 2.0 GPA?
If you have used your one appeal already and find yourself failing to meet the scholarship eligibility requirements again, you will lose your scholarship eligibility permanently. Each Imagine Scholar may only defer once during their four years, so please plan carefully and stay on top of your scholarship requirements (full time enrollment, a 2.0 GPA, and meeting required deadlines) so you do not have to use your appeal or deferral unless absolutely necessary. Once you have lost eligibility and have no more appeals available to you, you will essentially forfeit any unused funds left in your $4,000 total scholarship allowance.
My school is on a quarter system. What does this mean for me?

You will still apply during the fall and spring season like usual and will follow the same deadlines. If your “spring” quarter does not begin until after the spring scholarship deadline and you do not have your schedule available yet, you may use your winter quarter schedule/units instead.

Being on a quarter system still means you only get up to two disbursements per academic year.
Will the check be sent directly to me?

No. All checks must be sent to your institution, never to you personally. Once your school receives the check, each institution applies the funds at its own discretion. Please contact your school’s financial aid office if you have questions about what they will do once they receive your scholarship check.
It’s been several weeks since Imagine College informed me I would receive my check, but I have not received it yet. What should I do?
First, contact your school’s financial aid office and ask them if they have received the money. Some schools receive checks and then have a long processing period before it shows up in your account. If you call your school and they say they have not received your check, contact us at imaginecollege@gmail.com and tell us exactly what you have done so far (i.e. how many times have you contacted your school, which office did you speak with, and on what date).
My question is not listed anywhere on this page and I am still confused concerning the Imagine College Scholarship. What should I do?
You should call us at 831-392-3530 ext. 2070 or email us at imaginecollege@gmail.com. You are also welcome to stop by the College and Career Center at Seaside High School if you are local. We are here to answer your questions and will do our best to respond to your calls and emails in a timely manner.
